Anna Simpson is a local food and drink connoisseur, and also the author of her own blog "Eat and Drink with Anna." She stopped in to IL Centro not for the first time, but to enjoy the cuisine from one of her favorites in KC. Here is her take on our cozy little bistro.
"Looking for a great Italian meal and fantastic wine? Then head to Osteria Il Centro, one of my family’s favorite KC restaurants. This locally-owned South Plaza bistro is known for its authentic cuisine, its cozy atmosphere, and its superb wine selection. With over 10,000 reserve list bottles, it’s no surprise that Il Centro has received 17 consecutive Wine Spectator “Best of Awards of Excellence.”
My family always starts with a pizzette or an appetizer platter with mouthwatering bruschetta, calamari, goat cheese, and hummus (and, of course, a bottle of wine). Really, you could make a meal out of the hors d’oeuvres. But I suggest that you save room for one of their delicious entrées. One of my personal favorites is the chicken walnut pasta with Gorgonzola cream sauce (pictured above). Yes, it’s as good as it looks! You can’t go wrong though. The food is tasty, the wine is out-of-this-world, and the people are wonderful."
