Riccardo Campinoti from Le Ragnaie Wine paid a very special visit all the way from Tuscany to share a little history and of course, some wine with Osteria IL Centro’s wine club members. “I started my first vintage in 2002, I grew up in wine country and wine has always been my passion,” said Campinoti. OIC wine club members tried a variety of wines including:
1. Poggio Anima Gillo ‘15
2. Poggio Anima Primitivo ‘15
3. Le Ragnaie IGT Rosso ‘14
4. Le Ragnaie “Troncone” Chianti ‘14
5. Le Ragnaie Rosso de Montalcino ‘13
6. Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino ‘11
Le Ragnaie vineyard is located in the central zone of Montalcino and the vines sit at the highest elevation of any vineyard in the area. “Our property is about an hour south Florence, we’re very lucky to be in such a beautiful place, and it’s one of the most prestigious areas for red wine in Italy,” said Campinoti. Le Ragnaie wines are 100% sangiovese and follow strict guidelines of organic agriculture. Instead of using fertilizer in the fall, Le Ragnaie plants covercrops that help regenerate the land after a long summer season and helps enrich the organic substance of the land.
OIC wine club members enjoyed the wine along with hors d’oeuvres as Riccardo told the interesting history behind Le Ragnaie wine.
