Osteria IL Centro Welcomes Wine Club Member 1,000: Nick Richmond, CEO of Kansas City Credit Union!
Former UMKC Basketball Standout - Current KC Banking Community Pillar
Nick Richmond originally hails from Memphis, Tennessee - where he acquired a taste for a certain style of barbeque. The evening of this interview, Richmond sat with friends, mostly KC natives, at a tall table at Osteria IL Centro. Clearly aware that his next words might cause a stir, with a twinkle in his eye Richmond proclaimed, "Memphis is where the best barbeque in the world is made!" And so it went, the next few moments of the conversation considerably more raucous than the previous – Richmond relishing the competitive debate, certain his point of view would be victorious.
No surprise with the competitiveness, Richmond was formerly a highly competitive college basketball player, recruited by legendary UMKC Hall of Fame coach Lee Hunt to play guard in the mid-90's on the UMKC basketball team. Over his four year career as a Roo, Richmond was an outstanding guard, team leader, top scorer, assist leader and a prolific 3-point shooter. By his final season of '98-99, Richmond ranked in the top 3 for three point shots made, top 3 in assists and top 10 in points scored at UMKC. To this day Richmond ranks #8 in all time 3-pointers made at UMKC and in the top 20 for all time points scored at UMKC with 873.
Basketball isn't the only area where Richmond has excelled. He achieved success with multiple well-established financial institutions such as North American Savings Bank, US Bank and BMO Harris Bank before assuming the CEO position at Kansas City Credit Union – a credit union that has served Kansas City for over 80 years. As the leader of Kansas City Credit Union Richmond says he's committed to fulfilling the needs of the thousands of KCCU members and bettering the Kansas City community as a whole.

OIC Super Supporter
Richmond was first introduced to Osteria IL Centro thanks to his wife, Michaela, in 2011. She was a big fan of the restaurant and Nick, after dining a few times at OIC himself, also really enjoyed the food, the ambiance and the wine list. OIC has since become the Richmond's favorite eatery in Kansas City. Keeping up with the Richmonds? Sip on a glass of Nick Richmond's favorite wine, Caymus; or try his favorite dish: the Orange Roughy. The pan-seared filet accompanies crabmeat, sautéed spinach, and garlic lemon butter - all served with fresh herb-tomato pasta. Both Mr. and Mrs. Richmond enjoy the intimate, upscale feel, the 5-star food, and the premium selection of wines and spirits.
After years as a fan and patron, Richmond just recently joined the OIC Wine Club. He says he joined the Wine Club in order to gain access hard to find bottles of wine. He was enthusiastic to receive his member card - especially when it turned out to be Member card #1,000. As a proud supporter of Osteria IL Centro, Richmond commented, again with a twinkle in his eye, on the thrill of being named Wine Club Member #1,000 as, “A joy similar to scoring 1,000 career points in basketball!”
